Ramsgrange Community School hosts European Headteachers' Conference
EVENT INFORMATION
Ramsgrange Community School welcomes 41 delegates from thirteen countries which are members of the EU to Ireland next week.
Ramsgrange Community School joined the Euro Project in 1990 and participated in its first major conference in Geldrop in Holland.

The Project grew from an idea some teachers in Europe had of setting up an international group of schools from several countries that could collaborate together, have exchanges among themselves, learn from best practice etc.

In the early years students and teachers funded themselves to go on exchanges but for the last number of years the Project's aims and objectives fit in with those of the EU funded Comineus Programme and many schools now get funding through Comineus.
Ramsgrange Community School has been very fortunate to obtain funding from Léargas for a number of years to participate in the Euro Project.

A new Comenius Project ETHOS (Equality through Harmony, Open Mindedness and Solidarity) commences in Ramsgrange, so a lot of the conference will be concerned with planning for the next two years. The Project aims to develop:

  • Equal Opportunities
  • European Citizenship
  • Communication and Research Skills
  • Quality Assurance Approaches

The teachers are staying in the Talbot Hotel in Wexford and during their stay they will experience some of the restaurants and tourist attraction of the county.

Business will be conducted in Ramsgrange C.S. on Thursday and in the hotel on Friday. While in the school they will learn about the Irish Education System and will attend a lecture on meeting Special Educational Needs in the Irish Education System. On Saturday the delegates will take part in a historical walk of Wexford town accompanied by Mr Colm MacConfhaola (former teacher in Ramsgrange). This will be followed by a historical tour of Southwest Wexford including the Hook Lighthouse. Well known historian Mr Billy Colfer will lead the tour.
