Ramsgrange Community School students celebrated International Day of the Girl by taking part in the Her Moves Glow in the Dark UV Workshop. The workshop which was run in conjunction with the Her Moves programme as well as Sports Active Wexford. The local sporting partnership aims to increase physical activity in the general population, in particular amongst specific target groups, one of which being teenage girls. The programme was open to all secondary schools in the county and all girls in participating schools were invited to take part.
The aim of the roadshow was to provide teenage girls in Wexford an opportunity to get active in a fun, social and non-judgmental environment through movement under UV lights and utilising glow in the dark equipment. On the day, the Ramsgrange Community School girls were put through their paces in UV martial arts and self defense which was facilitated by John Phillips from Cho's Tae Kwan Do Wexford.
Throughout the course of the day over 160 girls from 1st to 6th year took part in the workshop. The students also engaged in conversations with their PE teachers as well as the Wexford Sports Active facilitators on participation levels of teenage girls in physical activity, barriers to this participation as well as strategies to overcome these barriers.
All in all, it was a fantastic day for all involved with a focus on being physically active in a fun and social manner.
