“Slé Anois go Cúaramach” is a new Irish language quiz show which began airing on TG4 on Tuesday March 24 19:30. The quiz is hosted by Síomha Ní Ruairc who is host of the bilingual podcast ‘How to Gael’ as well as a presenter on a variety of TG4 shows and currently a presenter on Virgin Media’s Ireland AM.
Each week, two secondary school teams go head to head in a range of different games and quiz rounds with an emphasis being put on the use of Irish language skills in a fun and competitive way. Produced by Irish language production company ‘Macalla Teoranta’ for TG4, the quiz show aims to promote the idea of using the Irish that you have and not the Irish that you should have and where participation and the use of the Irish language is encouraged, not judged.
Each week, the two teams compete to win a prize of a €200 voucher and all competitors receive their own ‘Slé Anois go Cúaramach’ merchandise on the day.
The three Ramsgrange students travelled, along with their Irish teacher Ms. Áine Coughlan, to Dublin back in November to film their episode. They had a fantastic experience and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to showcase their Irish language skills outside of the classroom. Their episode was number two of ten that aired on TG4 on Tuesday March 31 at 19:30.
