What is Transition Year?
Transition Year (TY) is a one-year optional programme available to all post-primary schools. As a standalone programme within the senior cycle experience, the TY programme offers a unique opportunity where schools and communities can collaborate to encourage young people to thrive now and into the future. A new TY Programme statement was devised for all schools to implement in September 2025.

In Ramsgrange Community School students are offered a unique programme, which was designed colloboratively and inkeeping with the TY Programme Statements, and which is reviewed annually to meet the needs of our students in their journey of

Our strong Transition Year programme has enjoyed many high profile successes across various areas including enterprise, Junk Kouture, BT Young Scientist competition, Young Social Innovators and more. It is a highly competitive programme with an admissions process that includes a written application and interview.
What are the aims of TY in R.C.S?
Our TY programme provides a bridge to enable students to make the transition from the more dependent type of learning associated with Junior Cycle to the more independent learning environment associated with Senior Cycle. It encourages the development of a wide range of transferable critical thinking and creative problem solving skills as can be seen from the array of subjects, modules and experieces of offer.
